Etsyl Sparkman photo collection continued...

Here is a picture of T/Sgt. Sparkman in front of a hut at Lingayen Gulf that he &
other enlisted men paid Tagalog natives to make with machetes. One of the
little ironies of the war was in the summer of 1945 (when American troops
were being transferred from Europe to the Pacific Theater in preparation
for the invasion of Japan), Etsyl's brother Denzel (1155th Combat Group)
unknowingly bunked in the same hut and bunk Etsyl had when the 9th was
stationed at Lingayen Gulf. [Etsyl would later meet his brother Bob on
Okinawa. Bob was with the 223rd Medical.] |
